Comparing the experience of adopting a dog to winning the lottery, Ian Russell knows how lucky he was to be chosen among hundreds of other hopeful adopters to bring home Kai, a Shar-pei mix. The story of Kai’s abandonment is heartbreaking – he was discovered tied to a rail outside a train station in Scotland with nothing but a suitcase containing essentials like food, a toy, and a pillow. It’s hard to imagine who could have left such a sweet pup behind in such dire circumstances.
The authorities were curious about the same thing and decided to do some investigating. They delved into Kai’s history and found out that his microchip led them to his previous owner who had sold him two years ago. However, the original owner claimed to have no knowledge of what happened to Kai after the sale. After some further digging, they were able to locate the woman who abandoned Kai at the station. She stated that she was deceived during the purchase as she thought Kai was a different breed than the one she had intended to buy.
While conducting their inquiry, the news regarding Kai’s abandonment touched the hearts of people worldwide. The Glasgow SpCA received numerous phone calls from concerned individuals who were willing to adopt Kai from as far away as Los Angeles and the Philippines. This incident truly showed the widespread love and compassion for animals around the globe.
Kai had entropions, a condition where the eyelids fold inward, which needed surgery before he could be adopted. Fortunately, Kai had a lot of supporters who donated generously, and the SpCA was able to surpass their fundraising goal in just one day!
In conclusion, after going through numerous applicants, they finally settled on Ian as the ideal owner for Kai. Ian had recently lost his Dalmatian and it was evident that he genuinely cared for Kai’s well-being as a Shar-pei.
We chose Ian as Kai’s new owner because he expressed his interest in giving Kai a forever home from the beginning. Ian was also open to our suggestions if we felt that other dogs in our shelter would be a better match for him. We wanted to make sure that Kai’s new owner was genuinely interested in adopting him and had thoroughly considered the responsibility of taking care of a rescue dog.
Right from the start, Ian and Kai hit it off and for the past few years, Kai has brought immense joy and companionship into Ian’s life. According to Ian, Kai accompanies him to work every day and makes a cute face when he feels that Ian is leaving without him. Ian works as an engineer and travels to different sites across the nation, and he takes his furry friend along wherever he goes. During their journeys, they also make pit stops to visit new and old friends and indulge in some tasty treats. Kai’s presence has been a source of inspiration for Ian as well. Although Ian had participated in marathons before, he took up running to raise funds for the Scottish SPCA after adopting Kai.
On the day of the marathon, Kai’s adorable facial expressions will be on display for all to see. However, he has had plenty of opportunities to train with his dad and socialize in various settings. Kai is a gentle dog who gets along well with people of all ages, particularly children. Whenever we go to the park, he often gets pursued by tinier dogs due to his calm and docile nature.
