Upon their arrival at the shelter, Lucy and Sully quickly became inseparable. They formed a bond that could not be broken and made it clear that they had to be adopted together. Lucy, a former stray, and Sully, who was adopted and returned, had unknown pasts. Nevertheless, there was a special connection between them that made them like family. As a few years older than Sully, Lucy took on a maternal role, and they became the best of friends.
Alaina Brinton decided to adopt a new puppy a few months after losing her senior dog. She stumbled upon Lucy’s picture at the local humane society and felt an instant connection. To her surprise, the staff informed her that Lucy had been fostered with another dog, and they suggested she meet both of them. Without any hesitation, Alaina agreed to meet both dogs.
Brinton didn’t plan to adopt two dogs, but after observing the strong bond between them, she knew she couldn’t separate them. While she had only intended to take one dog home, she couldn’t imagine parting them from each other. Luckily, Brinton immediately fell in love with both dogs and made up her mind to adopt them both without any hesitation.
“I was smitten from the moment I saw them,” Brinton shared. “Moreover, it was evident that Sully depended on Lucy to navigate their new surroundings, and I couldn’t bear the thought of separating them.”
Upon the arrival of Sully and Lucy in their new abode, Brinton came to realize how significant each dog was to one another. Both canines were apprehensive about their new home, albeit in different manners, but one of them managed to ease the other’s fear, ultimately proving that there was nothing to worry about. As Brinton put it, “They took cues from each other’s growing confidence just as they shared their excitement.” They worked together to adapt to their new routine and settled in as a team, making the transition much easier for both of them. It was the perfect scenario, and I strongly believe that their companionship played a vital role in their successful adjustment to their new environment.
Lucy and Sully have maintained their strong bond after seven years, enjoying each other’s company through sleeping, playing, and relaxing at home and in the yard. Their friendship is undeniable, and one can always find them near each other. Brinton, the owner, remarked that they will remain friends forever. Whenever they snuggle up together, Lucy gives Sully a few licks on his forehead, which elicits a happy expression on his face.
Compared to Lucy, Sully is a ball of energy due to his larger size and youthfulness. He has a curious nature and loves exploring the world around him, which takes up a lot of his time. However, even when he’s out and about, Sully never forgets to check in on Lucy and ensure her safety. According to Brinton, Sully frequently returns to Lucy’s side every few minutes during their time at the dog park. He greets her, walks with her briefly, and then goes off on his own again. Although it may seem like a lot of effort, it’s clear that Sully cares deeply for Lucy’s well-being and she doesn’t seem to mind his frequent interruptions.
Lucy and Sully found solace in each other’s company when they were staying at the shelter, and they helped each other overcome various challenges. Till this day, their bond remains strong as they continue to navigate through life side by side.
